July 17, 2020 The Western Collegiate Fastball Association ( WCSA ) announces the cancellation of the fall 2020 WCSA season and Championships.
Following consultation with all 8 WCSA member teams and based on public health guidelines, member school policy and provincial softball associations Return to Play guidelines, the reality is that most schools are offering only a small percentage of classes in person, and many schools’ position was to limit or cancel fall sports.
“The cancellation of the fall season is totally unfortunate, but as much as we all would like to play, the decision was mostly made for us,” said WCSA President Randy Plishka.
Going forward though, there is hope that the WCSA could play a spring season with most if not all schools participating. While details would still need to be worked out, a shortened schedule and playoffs might be feasible in April and May. Head Coach Neal Harlos of the University of Calgary Dinos said “I want to give my graduating seniors one more chance to play“, when talking about the possibility of a spring season. UBC-Okanagan Heat Director Darren Bennett says “UBC-O is 100% supportive of a spring season and still hope to hold the CCSA Nationals in Kelowna in May.”

A Different approach to Giving Day:

Since its launch in 2017, Giving Day amplifies our community’s collective generosity to create incredible impact on the student experience, from providing new scholarships to supporting mental health and wellness programs.

This year, we’re asking you to join us in making real, positive change in response to the pandemic – by donating in support of COVID-19 relief or giving the gift of your time to the community. We are humbled by the opportunity to share the transformative impact of Giving Day beyond the University of Calgary.

If you are in a position to give, we are grateful for your meaningful support. Because what hasn’t changed about Giving Day is that your donation will have double the impact. All eligible gifts made by May 22 will be matched, dollar for dollar, up to $2,500 per gift – but only while matching funds last, so it pays to give early.

However you choose to give – whether by donating, volunteering or both – you’ll make a real difference across our campuses and throughout our community. Because we’re stronger together – and together, we’ll get through this.

2018 awards
October 7, 2018 Dinos win Bronze Medal at Nationals:
Great pitching and timely hitting were the trademarks for the Dinos in Saskatoon for the 11th Annual CCSA National Championships. Dinos started with a solid effort against St. Clair College on Friday, earning a 5 - 1 win. In their second game of the day the defence was again solid, and hitting came through, Dinos won in 6 innings against Durham College 9 - 2. Saturday morning saw the Dinos against WCSA rivals the University of Saskatchewan, and this was a game that will be rememberred for the all out offence from both teams. Saskatchewan led the whole game up until the bottom of the 7th inning, and the Dinos exploded for 5 runs, erasing a 4 run deficet on route to a 11 - 10 win. Despite losing 8 - 4 to Regina, the Dinos finished 2nd in the round robin, which matched them up against Regina again Sunday morning in the 1 vs 2 game. A closer game, but Regina prevailed again, winning 4 - 1. Dropping into the semifinal against 3rd place Durham College, the Dinos had a steady run of opportunities, including the bottom of the 7th. Unfortunately the rally ended, and Durham moved on to the Championship final, and the Dinos had to settle for the Bronze Medal.
A great season, and a lot of promise for the 2019 season.
October 6, 2018 Two Dinos selected to CCSA National All Star Team: The All Star teams were announced after the completion of the round robin play, and Libby Wheeler ( utility ) and Emma Jerome Smith ( catcher ) were selected to the team.

Dinos finish in 7th place at Nationals: The Dinos finished with a 1 and 3 record over the Thanksgiving weekend in Regina. A tough opening 8-7 loss against Humber, and a 3-0 loss against SAIT made it impossible for the team to have the success they were hoping for over the weekend. The cold weather affected all teams, but the calibre of ball played was among the best we've seen at Nationals. Looking forward to the 2013 season, and a return trip to Nationals in Oshawa, Ontario.
October 1 Dinos win Silver in WCSA Playoffs. Dinos battled all weekend against stiff competition, winning a silver medal. After going 2 -2 in the round robin portion of the playoffs, the Dinos were forced to play 4 games on Sunday. Winning a tie breaker against the U of Regina 7-4 moved them into the semi-final against cross town rival SAIT Polytechnic. A big 4th inning helped ensure a 6-1 victory. The gold medal remained elusive though, as the U of Saskatchewan broke the tie in the 6th inning and won the league title 5-3. The finish qualifies the Dinos for the 2013 Nationals in Ontario.

The WCSA awards were handed out over the weekend, and the Dinos came through. Jessica Ruzicki took home 2 of the 3 major awards; being named Top Rookie, and Top Batter in 2012.

As well the all star awards were announced. These were voted on by the coaches in the league.

1st Team Selections included Jessica Ruzicki in Centre Field, and Sarah Plishka as Utility player.

2nd Team Sections included Taylor McGonigal as Catcher, and Kristen Galloway in Right Field.

September 25, 2012 Dinos clinch 3rd place in the league, with a record of 7 wins, 6 losses, and 1 tie. Playoffs are being hosted this coming weekend by the University of Lethbridge in Coaldale.

August 31, 2012
